Curb Appeal

Richmond is a great city that operates one of the largest municipal parks in the country. So, it shouldn't come as a big surprise to learn that when selling your Richmond home, curb appeal should be a top priority. In many cities across the country, where gardens are readily booming and houses are painted annually, it takes more than a potted plant and a well kept lawn to get potential buyers inside your home. If a buyer isn't impressed with the outside, there is no way they are going to walk through the front door. You wouldn't visit a retail store, like a Maggie Sottero bridal shop, that has a poor exterior display, right? So, why should it be different for a home? Fortunately for you, sprucing up your home's curb appeal is something that is very easily done. There are some quick and cost efficient ways for everyone to take advantage of to make the exterior of your home shine.

Let's start with the yard. When most people look at a yard, they want to envision a space where they can relax in the summer months, have space for their children play, and mainly a place that is warm and inviting. First things first, always regularly maintain your grass. Ensure that it is constantly mowed and watered and that all weeds are removed. Consider planting some bright and colorful flowers or even a few small trees. These often come very cheap at a local plant shop or garden center and it will make all the difference in the world. Be sure to trim all hedges and mulch the beds if necessary. Think of your garden as a piece of art or a contemporary dance that has something to say and makes a statement about your home.

Make sure not to neglect the physical exterior of your home. If your home has wooden siding, be sure to remove all chips and give it a fresh coat of paint. If the exterior of your home is plastic siding or brick, think about renting a pressure washer to give your home a good, thorough spray. It may not seem dirty at first glance, but a good pressure will remove any water stains or minor scrapes your home may have endured over the years.

Even though this one is probably a given, you should always make sure to remove all clutter from the outside of your home. A real estate agent wouldn't show some great gallery lofts without removing junk and clutter, so why should things be different for the outside of your home. Be sure to remove your children's toys, and all yard equipment, even if it is used regularly. Having things take up room on your lawn or driveway can limit a potential buyer's vision. Another thing to make your yard seem more spacious would be to store any extra cars you own in your garage. Lots of vehicles in the driveway can make your driveway look smaller and possibly cover up nice gravel or crisp black paint.

The last few things you need to consider are your front door, your mailbox, and your windows. A lot of realtors say that a bright, solid colored front door can really draw the eye in and make your house pop. If your home is gray with deep purple shutters, think about a black door, for example. The same goes for a mailbox. Slap a bright, fresh coat of paint on it or simply replace it if it's covered in rust. You could even be bold and decorate with words. Lastly, when it comes to your windows, always make sure that blinds are hung straight, curtains are always open and matching, and that the exterior base of all windows are in good condition. Curb appeal doesn't have to be costly or as confusing as an international SIM card. It's really quite simple, just follow the simple guidelines above and you can assure your home will stand out amongst the others!
